Dover is the far end of our New Hampshire corridor — about 70 miles from Boston: up I-95 to Portsmouth, then the Spaulding Turnpike (Route 16) to the Cochecho River. Settled in 1623, it is the oldest permanent settlement in New Hampshire and still calls itself the Garrison City. Today it is the biggest city on the Seacoast, with a brick mill downtown, Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, and the Amtrak Downeaster stopping a block from Central Avenue. Harbor Moving LLC runs Dover moves as full-service interstate bookings under USDOT 4016795 — the same corridor we already work out of Portsmouth, one town further up the river.
Mill Buildings, Brick Blocks, and Real Stairs
The Cochecho River drops 34 feet through downtown, and the mills it powered still shape Dover's housing. The old Cocheco Falls mill buildings are now apartments, offices, and the Children's Museum of New Hampshire — mill conversions can mean elevators and loading rules in one building and four flights of walk-up stairs in the next. Around Central Avenue, brick commercial blocks sit over older homes with narrow staircases. Either way, the work is the same: furniture padded and wrapped piece by piece, walls and banisters protected, and a crew that plans the stairs before it carries them.
From Garrison Hill to the Durham Line
Below Garrison Hill — the lookout tower you can see over the whole city — Dover is single-family streets and multi-family homes. Out toward Madbury and the Durham line, you find the other half of Dover's moves: University of New Hampshire staff and students, and hospital families coming and going around Wentworth-Douglass. Every Dover job is quoted from our published price book, the same numbers for everyone: hourly crews at $159/hr for two movers and a truck, $199 for three movers, $249 for four, or set packages at $399 for a studio or 1-bedroom, $749 for a 2-3 bedroom, and $1,299 for a 4+ bedroom. Long-distance moves are priced from $0.85 per mile and confirmed in a written interstate estimate before you book — no surprises on the day.
The Spaulding Turnpike Run, Both Ways
Boston-to-Dover loads in the morning and unloads the same day; Dover-to-Boston runs just as often in reverse, and Dover sits close enough to Portsmouth that Seacoast hops between the two are an easy add. One corridor move a day means your date gets the whole crew and no rushing at either end.
