Salem is the North Shore's historic port city — about 16 miles northeast of Boston in Essex County, settled in 1626 and built rich on maritime trade. The harbor still anchors the city: Derby Wharf, the old Custom House, and the tall ship Friendship of Salem sit on the waterfront, and the Peabody Essex Museum anchors downtown. Harbor Moving LLC runs Salem as a North Shore route out of East Boston — up Route 1A through Lynn or in from Route 128 — with the same published pricing we use across Greater Boston.

Historic Homes, Honest Stairs

The McIntire Historic District holds one of the finest stretches of Federal-era homes in America. Chestnut Street's grand houses, with Samuel McIntire's carved doorways, are beautiful — and they were not built with a sectional sofa in mind. The same story repeats across Salem: sea captains' homes downtown, triple-deckers in the Point, and older wood-frame houses in North Salem with narrow stairs, low landings, and tight turns. That is normal work for us: furniture padded and wrapped piece by piece, doorways and banisters protected, and a plan for the stairs before anything leaves the floor. One Salem-specific warning: in October, Haunted Happenings closes downtown streets and fills the city. If your move lands in October, book early and aim for a weekday morning.

From Salem Willows to South Salem

Salem's neighborhoods each move their own way. Salem Willows is waterfront cottages and tight streets under the willow trees. The Point — El Punto — is dense triple-decker blocks just south of downtown. South Salem clusters around Salem State University, with semester-turnover apartments every May and August, and North Salem and West Salem are quieter single-family streets. Condos along the harbor and apartments near the commuter rail station round it out. Tell us your neighborhood and your building type when you book, and the crew size, truck plan, and price all get set around the actual house — not a guess.

Honest Pricing, From the Same Book

Salem moves are priced from our published book, the same numbers for everyone: hourly crews at $159/hr for two movers and a truck, $199 for three movers, $249 for four, with a two-hour minimum — or set packages at $399 for a studio or 1-bedroom, $749 for a 2-3 bedroom, and $1,299 for a 4+ bedroom. Stairs are $45 per flight. Need a gap between homes? Storage starts at $125/mo, and junk removal starts at $150.
